Checking fuel pump
Checking fuel pump
t  Test requirements → Anchor
t  check operation and electricity supply → Anchor
t  Verification of the fuel pump power consumption → Anchor
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 C- or digital multimeter -VAG 1715-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Voltage tester -VAG 1527B-, see equivalent → Anchor

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Digital multimeter -VAG 1715-, see equivalent → Anchor
Test requirements
l  Fuses must be OK.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off
Operation and voltage supply: verification
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
  W00-0573
–  Unclip the tabs -arrows- of the lock clamp cover.
–  switch ignition on. The fuel pump should be heard to come on.
–  Switch off ignition.
If the fuel pump does not run:
–  Remove the 5-pin connector from the fuel delivery unit flange.
  A20-1206
–  Connect the multimeter -VAG 1527B- with auxiliary measuring tool set -VAG 1594C- to exterior contacts of connector.
–  switch ignition on. The LED must light for approx. 2 seconds
If the LED does not light up:
–  Verify the activation of the fuel pump relay and check the cables for interruption or short circuit → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
If the diode lights (voltage supply is OK):
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Test the connection and the integrity of the electric cables between the bracket and the fuel pump.
If there is cable integrity:
–  Renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
Verification of the fuel pump power consumption
  N20-10045
–  Connect the digital multimeter -VAG 1715- using the clamp ammeter on the cable to contact -1-.
–  Start engine and allow to idle.
–  Measure the power consumption of the fuel pump:
t  Specification: 4,5 ... 5.5 amps.
  Note
If there is a temporary fuel system fault, the check can also be carried out during a test drive, with the help of a second person.
–  If the measurement does not correspond to the specification, replace the fuel supply unit → Chapter.
