Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Base -3314-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing .
–  Remove the engine cover upwards -arrows-.
–  Remove retaining clips of the hose.
–  Carefully and in a straight line, separate the hose from the connecting sleeves (the sleeves of the pressure sender break easily).

–  Unplug connector -2-.
–  Undo the screws -3- and remove the bracket of the pressure differential sender -G505--arrow-.
  Note
Item -1- can be disregarded.

–  Release clips -arrows- and press upper toothed belt guard aside to the right.
  Caution
Pay particular attention not to damage the wires when removing the connections, because otherwise it would be necessary to replace the entire wiring harness. Do not press pliers -3314- together excessively when removing the connection, because otherwise the bearing supports could be damaged.

–  Position pliers -3314- with groove -arrow A- on support sleeve shoulder -arrow B- and pull glow plug connectors off glow plugs.
–  Remove the intake pipe → Chapter.
–  Remove injectors and fuel rail → Chapter.

–  Unscrew the fixing bolts of the coolant pipe -arrow- on the intake pipe and position the pipe in front of the intake pipe.
  Note
Disregard items -A-, -B- and -C-.
  N15-10401
–  Press release tabs and disconnect crankcase breather hose -1- from cylinder head cover.
  Note
Ignore positions -2- and the -arrows-.

–  Disconnect electrical connector -arrow- at position sender for charge pressure positioner -G581-.
–  Remove the vacuum lines from the supports in the cylinder head cover.

–  Slacken the cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -6 ... 1- and unscrew.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.
Fitting .
Installation is carried out in reverse order, noting the following:
  Note
t  Renew gaskets and bolts for cylinder head cover if they have leaks or are damaged.
t  Renew grommets and seals for injectors if damaged or leaking.

–  Manually fasten the bolts for the cylinder head cover in the sequence -1 … 6-.
–  Tighten the bolts of the cylinder head cover to 9 Nm in the following order -1 ... 6- → Fig..

–  Ensure that cylinder head cover is correctly clipped to toothed belt guard -arrows-.
  Note
For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the camshaft sprocket removed.
–  Check clearance between hub and toothed belt guard.
–  Install coolant return line.
–  Installing intake pipe → Chapter.
–  Install fuel rail and injectors → Chapter.
–  Install pressure differential sender -G505- → Chapter.
