Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B-, see equivalent → Anchor or central diagnosis -VAS 5052-, see equivalent → Anchor
  Note
To replace the engine control unit, connect the Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- and complete the guided function „Replace control unit“.
Removing .
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Remove the front plate of the plenum chamber → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55.

–  Unlock front connector -1- from the engine control unit and pull it off.
–  Prise out outer frame -2- a little.
–  Then remove the engine control unit from the support -arrow-.
–  Now unlock the rear connector from engine control unit and pull it off.
Fitting .
–  Attach the rear connector to the engine control unit and lock it.
–  Fit the engine control unit onto the retention plate.
–  Now attach the front connector to the engine control unit and lock it.
–  Fit the front plate of the plenum chamber → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55.
–  Interrogate and erase fault memory if necessary → Chapter.
