Fuel system: Fill and bleed
Fuel system: Fill and bleed
  Caution
Risk of irreparable damage to high-pressure pump if allowed to run dry.
The high-pressure pump must first be filled with fuel before the engine is started. The high-pressure pump must not be allowed to run while still empty.
  Note
t  When installing the high-pressure fuel pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system.
t  Only remove sealing plugs immediately prior to installation of fuel lines.
t  There must be sufficient fuel in the tank.
Proceed as follows to fill high-pressure pump with fuel:
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Bleeding fuel system“ or „Filling/bleeding fuel system“ depending on software version.
  Note
The fuel pumps will now be activated for a total of 3 minutes.
–  Start engine.
–  After filling fuel system, leave engine running at moderate speed for a few minutes and then switch off again.
–  Check the entire fuel system for leaks.
–  Read out the fault memory and erase if a fault is registered.
–  Then test drive the vehicle over a distance greater than 20 km with at least one full acceleration. Then check high-pressure part of fuel system again for leakage.
  Note
If there is any air left in the fuel system, the engine may switch to the backup mode ('emergency running' mode) during the road test. Switch off the engine and clear the fault memory. Then continue road test.
–  Interrogate fault memory again.
