When working on the fuel systems take note of the following: |
WARNING Injury risk! The fuel is subject to pressure! |
t
| Wrap a clean cloth around the connection before opening the fuel system. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection. |
t
| Wear protective gloves. |
Danger of scalding from very hot fuel. |
t
| In extreme cases, the temperature of the fuel and the fuel lines can reach 100 °C after the engine is switched off. Before opening the duct connections, allow the fuel to cool otherwise there is a risk of severe burns. |
t
| Wear protective gloves. |
|
To avoid personal injury and damage in the preheating and injection system, take note of the following: |
t
| The electrical wiring of the preheating and injection system (including the tester units) should be connected and disconnected only with the ignition switched off. |
t
| Wash the engine only if the ignition is switched off. |
t
| Upon disconnecting electrical connectors faults are registered in the engine control unit: |
–
| Before removing the error memory, call-up all control units → Chapter |
Caution Danger of electronic components fault upon disconnecting battery. |
t
| Follow the adapted methods before disconnecting the battery. |
t
| Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting the battery. |
|
When working on the coolant system take note of the following: |
WARNING Hot coolant and vapours can cause burns! |
t
| When the engine is hot the cooling system is under pressure. |
t
| To reduce the system charge pressure, cover the expansion tank plug with a rag and open carefully. |
|
Note the following if testers and measuring instruments have to be used during a road test: |
WARNING Risk of suffering an accident due to distraction and for not sufficiently tying down the tester units. |
Driver airbag activation danger in case of accident. |
l
| Operating tester units whilst driving distracts your attention. |
l
| High risk of injury with loose test units. |
The test units should be tied down to the rear seat with a belt and operated from said seat by a second person. |
