Checking exhaust system for leaks > < Separating centre and rear silencers

Operation process
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
Proceed as follows:
l  The exhaust system must be aligned when it is cool.
   
–  Loosen bolt connections the clamping sleeve at the front.
–  Push rear section of exhaust system towards front of vehicle -arrow-, so that rear mounting for centre silencer is preloaded by -a- = 13 ... 17 mm.

–  Fit the clamping sleeves at the indicated angle.
l  Bolt connections face to right.
l  Nuts face upwards.
l  α = approx. 20°

–  Position rear silencer to align tailpipes as follows:
l  Distance between tailpipes and bumper cut-out must be equal on both sides.
l  Dimension -a- left side = Dimension -a- right side.
l  At the same time, specified clearance must be maintained between bumper cut-out and top of tailpipes.
l  Distance -b- = 21 mm.
–  If necessary, unfasten rear silencer mounting to align tailpipes.
