Removing and installing catalytic converter Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench (5... 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removal: –  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat protecting plate.

–  Remove nuts -arrows- for catalytic converter. –  Move electrical wiring harness leading to alternator clear at catalytic converter. –  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.

–  Disconnect the electric connector -1- for the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- from the air conditioner compressor.   WARNING Risk of injury due to refrigerant. The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened. –  Remove bolts -arrows- for air conditioner compressor.   Caution Risk of damage to refrigerant lines/hoses. Do not expand the refrigerant lines and hoses excessively. –  Carefully attach the air-conditioning compressor with the refrigerant hoses still connected to the longitudinal member.

–  Unscrew nuts -1- and -2-. –  Move clear electrical wiring for Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130--arrows-. –  Detach front exhaust pipe from catalytic converter.

–  Remove electrical connector -2- for Lambda probe -G39- from bracket and unplug connector. –  Move clear electrical wiring for Lambda probe -G39-.   Note -Items 1 and 3- can be disregarded.

–  Remove bolts -1- and -2- and detach catalytic converter. Installing Install in the reverse order to removal. l  Tightening torques → Chapter Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: –  Install the exhaust pipe → Chapter. –  Install air conditioner compressor → Rep. gr.87. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Install heat shield for turbocharger → Chapter.
