Checking fuel pressure > < Checking fuel pump
check operation and electricity supply
check operation and electricity supply
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
l  Fuel pump fuse in fuse holder, OK → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
–  Switch on ignition.
l  The fuel pump should be heard to start operating shortly afterwards.
  Note
The fuel pump runs very quietly.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
If the fuel pump does not run:
–  Remove the rear seat bench → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72.
   
–  Unclip cover -1- from fuel delivery unit. The arrow -2- indicates direction of movement.
  Note
For vehicles with additional heating, the metering pump -V54 - must also be disconnected.

–  Unplug connector -1-.

–  Connect the measurement adapter/ DSO (5 poles) -VAS 5565- to the terminal connector on the fuel supply unit.
–  Connect the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- to the cables -1- and -5- of the measurement adapter / DSO (5 poles) -VAS 5565-.
–  Switch on ignition.
l  The LED must light briefly.
If the LED does not light up briefly:
–  Locate and rectify open circuit using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
If the diode lights briefly (voltage supply is OK):
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.
If there is cable integrity:
–  Fuel pump is defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
