Removing and installing fuel delivery unit
Removing and installing fuel delivery unit
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Spanner -T10202-
  W00-1334
t  Torque wrench (40 - 200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor
Fuel delivery unit: Removing → Anchor
Fuel delivery unit: Fitting → Anchor
Removing
l  The fuel tank should be at half capacity at the most.
  Note
If necessary, empty the fuel tank with the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- → Chapter.
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter
–  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.

–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Fold down the rear seat forwards.
–  Remove the cover of the fuel delivery unit -arrows-.

–  Remove the cover -1- of the fuel delivery unit together with the fuel pump control unit -J538--2-.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Disconnect the connector and the fuel pipes -1- and -2- from the flange.

Press in safety wedge to release fuel lines.

–  Open the lock ring with the turning tool -T10202- .
–  Pull fuel delivery unit and seal out of their housing in fuel tank.
  Note
If the fuel delivery unit needs replacing, drain the old delivery unit prior to disposal.
Installing
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:

t  When inserting the fuel delivery unit ensure that the fuel gauge sender is not bent -G-.
t  Insert seal for fuel delivery unit dry into opening of fuel tank.
t  Moisten seal with fuel only when installing fuel delivery unit.

t  Consider the fitting position of fuel delivery unit flange: The mark on the flange -3- must be opposite to the flow. The fuel delivery unit flange can be installed only in this position.
t  Do not confuse the fuel supply lines and the return lines.
t  Ensure that line connections are tight.
t  After installing fuel delivery unit, check that the supply, return and breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
