t  Removing → Anchor.

Removing
   
–  Release quick fasteners -arrows- and remove engine cover panel.
–  Remove the air filter housing → Chapter.

–  Unscrew the coolant expansion tank -arrow- and lay to one side together with the fitted lines..
–  Unplug electrical wire for coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- at bottom of expansion tank and move expansion tank to one side with coolant hoses -1- and -2- attached.

–  Disconnect the plug connectors -2- and -5- from bracket on the left of the bulkhead.
–  Detach all mountson lambda probe lines.

–  Unscrew nuts securing turbocharger to catalytic converter -arrows-.

–  Release quick-fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation.
–  If fitted, release quick fasteners -3- and remove rear noise insulation.

–  Unscrew the heat protection plate -1- of the right cardan shaft.

–  Unscrew nut -arrow- at bracket for front exhaust pipe.
  Note
The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) on the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged.

–  Slacken nuts on front clamp -arrows-.
–  Push clamp towards rear of vehicle to disconnect exhaust system.
–  Take exhaust pipe off with catalytic converter.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
–  Align exhaust system without tension → Chapter

1)  Renew nuts.
