Chain drive > < Removing and installing timing chain cover (bottom)
Replace the sealing ring for vibration damper
Replace the sealing ring for vibration damper
t  Removing → Anchor

Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Tappet -T10354-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -T10355-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Pressure tool -T10368-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor kit -T20143-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adjustment tool -T40098-, please see Correspondence → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

   
Removing
–  Loosen the fasteners -2-, -3- and -5- and remove the front noise insulation.
–  Move lock carrier to service position → Rep. gr.50.

  Caution
Risk of breakage if the poly V-belt runs in the opposite direction when refitted.
Before removing, mark direction of operation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen in preparation for re-installation.
–  To slacken poly V-belt turn tensioner in direction of -arrow-.
–  Lock tensioner with locking tool -T40098-.
–  Remove poly V-belt from pulley on vibration damper.
  Caution
Risk of damage to engine.
To avoid disturbing valve timing, do not turn crankshaft out of „TDC“ position when vibration damper is removed.

–  Turn the vibration damper to „TDC“ position -arrow- using counterhold tool -T10355-.
l  Notch on vibration damper must align with arrow marking on cover for timing chains (bottom).
–  Remove the bolt for vibration damper using counterhold tool -T10355-.
  A13-10442
–  Remove the vibration damper and screw in the thrust piece -T10368- instead.
–  Pull out the seal using the extractor kit -T20143-.
Installing
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
–  Clean contact surface and sealing surface of seal.
–  Screw out the thrust piece -T10368-.

–  Drive in the oil seal -arrow- as far as it will go using the thrust piece -T10354- and bolt for vibration damper.
  Note
t  Renew bolt for vibration damper.
t  Renew O-ring.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence. The following should be taken into account:
–  Install vibration damper → Chapter.
–  Installing the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
