Removing and installing high-pressure pump
Removing and installing high-pressure pump
  WARNING
Fuel system operates under high pressure. Always dissipate fuel pressure prior to opening fuel system. For procedure, refer to → Chapter
  Note
t  The high-pressure fuel pump should only be removed when the engine is cold.
t  When installing the high-pressure fuel pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system.
t  Use a cloth to catch escaping fuel.
t  The O-ring must always be replaced.
t  Always ensure that the high-pressure fuel pipes are free of tension when tightening the connections.
Removal:
–  Remove engine cover.

–  Unplug the connector -1- for the fuel pressure regulation valve -N276-.
  A24-10632
–  Opened the two fuel pipes -arrows-.
  A24-10633
–  Unscrew the 2 bolts -arrows-.
–  Carefully pull out the high-pressure fuel pump. It is possible that the sleeve may remain lodged in the exhauster pump.
Installation
–  Replace the O-ring for the high-pressure fuel pump.
–  Inset the roller tappet into the vacuum pump (check roller tappet for damage prior to installation).
  Note
t  The roller tappet must be positioned at the lowest point when installing the high-pressure pump.
t  If the same high-pressure pump is re-installed, or if a used pump is installed, the connecting piece for the fuel supply pipe (high-pressure side) must be renewed. Refer to high-pressure pump - exploded view (item 11) → Chapter.
–  Turn crankshaft until roller tappet is positioned at lowest point.
–  Fit high-pressure pump in exhauster pump and secure in position.
–  Tighten the bolts by hand.
–  Renew connecting piece at high-pressure pump.
l  Tightening torque: High-pressure pump - exploded view → Chapter
–  Now tighten the screws crosswise to the specified tightening torque, see high-pressure pump - Assembly overview → Chapter.
–  Tighten union nut on fuel supply line hand-tight. Align so that parts are free of tension.

  A24-10632
–  Re-attach electrical connector -1- for fuel pressure regulating valve -N276-.
–  Put back fuse if it has been removed.
  Note
Check fuel system for leaks .
