Fitting .
  Note
t  When turning camshaft, crankshaft should not be at TDC. Danger of damage to the valves/piston base.
t  Engine at tepid temperature at most.
–  Place notched belt on crankshaft sprocket (observe direction of rotation).
–  Fasten the lower guard with the two bottom bolts.
–  Fit the vibration damper/belt pulley using new bolts. Tightening torque: 10 Nm + 90° turn.

–  Set crankshaft and camshaft to cylinder 1 TDC -arrows-.
  N15-10145
–  Fit the timing belt in the following order: tensioning roller, camshaft sprocket, coolant pump and finally idle roller -arrow- .
  Note
  N15-10143
Ensure the correct seating of the tension roller in the cylinder head.
  N15-10140
–  Tense the notched belt. To do so, turn the Allen key in the eccentric towards the right (direction of the arrow), until the notch is above the tab (notched belt too tense).
–  Slacken timing belt again.
–  Now tense the timing belt until the notch is aligned with the tab.
–  Tighten the fastening nut to 25 Nm.
–  Turn the crankshaft a further two turns in the engine direction of rotation, and place it in TDC again. It is important that the last 45° (1/8 turn) is turned without stopping.
–  Check again if timing belt is tense. Specified value: notch and tab aligned.
  N15-10139
–  Check valve timings again.
If the marks do not coincide:
–  Readjust the valve timings.
If the marks coincide:
  N15-10145
–  Fit the timing belt guard -arrows-.
–  Fit the engine support from the top to the engine block, and fasten the bolts by hand.
  Note
  N15-10146
Take into account the different lengths of the bolts. Note that bolt -3- is approximately 25 mm shorter than bolts -1 - and -2-.
–  Lower the engine with the support -U-30025E- until the bottom bolt can be tightened -3-.
–  Tighten all bolts to 45 Nm, (replace the bolts).
–  Fit the support assembly on the engine. Tightening torques → Chapter.
  N15-10144
–  Screw in the bolts of the engine support assembly and the engine support -arrows- by hand. Bring the surfaces into contact using the suspension device -U-30025E-.
–  Align the engine support assembly as follows:
  N10-0437
t  There must be a distance -a- of at least 10 mm between the engine support foot and the right-hand side longitudinal member.
t  The moulded edge on the engine support -2- must be parallel to the support arm -1-.
–  Tighten the bolts of the engine support assembly and the engine support. Tightening torques → Chapter
–  Remove the support -U-30025-.
–  Remove the support -T10339- and fit the tensioning device for the Poly-V belt.
–  Installing Poly-V belt → Chapter.
–  Connect the fuel supply and air release pipes. Ensure that the female couplings are firmly connected.
–  Fit the coolant expansion tank.
–  Fit the soundproofing elements → Bodywork-exterior fitting tasks; Rep. Gr.50
–  Fit the fuse for the fuel pump control unit -J538- in the fuse holder.
–  Fit the engine cover / air filter .
