Catalytic converter with main exhaust pipe: removing and installing Removing → Anchor. Installing → Anchor. removing –  Remove engine cover → Chapter.

–  Disconnect and dismount the lambda probe -G39--arrow-of the catalyst.   Note Lubricate the threads of the turbo/exhaust before loosening the bolts

–  Unscrew the attachment bolts -arrows- of the primary exhaust pipe/turbo-compressor.

–  Remove the bottom right-hand side panel of the underbody -arrows-.

–  Disconnect the connector of the Lambda probe after the catalytic converter -G130--arrow- , and set the cable aside.   Note The connecting elements of the front exhaust pipes must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise they could be damaged.

–  Remove the exhaust system by the surrounding sleeve -arrows-.

–  Unbolt exhaust system retainer -arrows-.

Vehicles with four wheel drive –  Remove cardan sealing flange -arrows-.

–  Separate the screws -1- and the safetys -2- of the cardan central support, together with the thermal isolation plate. –  Hold with a wire the cardan front flange. Continued for all vehicles

–  Remove front crosspiece from vehicle underbody -arrows-. –  Remove the catalytic converter with the main exhaust pipe. Vehicles with four wheel drive –  Support the cardan camshaft with the engine/gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-. Fitting Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following: t  Lubricate studs of the turbocharger with high-temperature lubricant; High-temperature lubricant → Parts catalogue. t  Always gaskets and self-locking nuts. t  Align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter. Tightening torques.
