  A21-10162
–  Rotate the vibration damper with the wrench -T10355- to the TDC position („OT“) -arrow-.
l  The notch on the vibration damper should face the mark -arrow- on the lower cover of the distribution chains.
l  The markings -1- on the camshafts must face upwards.
  A15-10451
–  Remove sealing plug -arrow-.
  A15-10447
–  Use an appropriate screwdriver to raise the cotter pin holding the chain tensioner in the -direction of arrow 1-, turn the crankshaft in the opposite direction to engine movement in the -direction of arrow 2- to compress the chain tensioner and fasten it with a clamp -T40011-.
  A15-10448
–  Remove bolt -1- and detach tensioning rail -2- downwards.
–  Use screwdriver to release catch and press off top guide rail -3- forwards.
–  Remove the distribution chain from the camshaft sprockets.
  Caution
Avoid damage to valves and piston crowns.
Once the camshaft chain has been extracted from the cylinder head, the crankshaft must not turn.
–  Unplug electrical connectors at ignition coils and move wiring harness clear.
  A15-10602
–  Remove ignition coils using puller -T40039-.
  A28-0074
–  Disconnect crankcase breather hoses -1 and 2-.
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach crankcase breather.
  A15-10473
–  Detach lines -1 and 3-.
–  Unplug electrical connector -2- at Hall sender -G40-.
–  Remove high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove exhauster pump → Chapter.
  A15-10609
–  Release the cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -1 to 6-.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.
–  Extract the camshafts.
–  Prevent dirt and sealant remains from entering the cylinder block.
Fitting
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
  Note
t  The contact surfaces must be free from oil and grease.
t  Pistons must not be at TDC.
t  Ensure that all the roller rocker fingers are correctly supported on the ends of the valve stems.
t  Silicone sealant → Spare parts catalogue
t  Note expiry date of silicone sealant.
t  The cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealant.
–  Remove sealant remaining on cylinder head with flat scraper.
  WARNING
Wear eye protection.
–  Prevent dirt and sealant remains from entering the cylinder block.
  A15-10557
–  Eliminate the remains of sealant paste from the slot in the cylinder head cover, as well as the sealing surfaces with, for example a rotating plastic brush.
–  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
  A13-0590
–  Cut off the tube nozzle on the front marking (diameter of the nozzle approximately. 2 mm).
–  Oil running surfaces of both camshafts.
  A17-0081
–  Install camshafts in cylinder head, recesses -arrows- must face each other.
–  Replace the cylinder head cover bolts.
  A15-10608
–  Apply silicone sealant onto clean sealing surface of cylinder head cover, as illustrated -arrows-.
t  Thickness of the sealant grub: 2 to 3 mm.
  Note
t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying silicone sealant.
t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.
t  Note the use-by date of the sealant.
Sealant → Electronic spare parts catalogue.
–  Tighten the bolts in the tightening sequence in several actions → Fig.
  Note
Take care to keep cylinder head cover straight.
  A15-10454
–  Use thrust piece -T10174- to drive in sealing cap -1- (do not apply sealant).
-a-: 1 ... 2 mm
  A15-10603
–  Check that the crankshaft is in TDC („OT“) -arrow-.
l  The notch on the vibration damper should face the mark -arrow- on the lower cover of the distribution chains.
  A13-10442
–  Place the counterhold -T20208- and fasten it to the cylinder head with the lower bolt.
–  Turn the camshafts towards the counterhold -T20208- to adjust their axial position and block them, bearing in mind the marks.
  Note
  E15-10053
t  When necessary, turn the intake camshaft in the -direction of arrow A- using a wrench until the markings on the camshaft and on the support tool -T20208- correspond with each other.
t  This figure is used as an instruction, being a requirement that the support tool -T20208- is mounted and that the sprocket in the camshaft is not blocked.
l  The marks of the camshafts should coincide with the marks on the counterhold -T20208-.
–  Place the camshaft chain so that the marks of the chain and the pinions coincide.
  WARNING
Once the camshafts are blocked and before tightening the cylinder head cover, loosen the lower bolt of the counterhold -T20208-. If not, the camshafts could be damaged.
  Note
Ensure that the cover is not tilted.
–  Install high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Install exhauster pump → Chapter.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
