Front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters: Removing and installing Removing → Anchor. Installing → Anchor. Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor. Removing –  Carefully remove engine cover → Chapter.

–  Disconnect and dismount the lambda probe -G39--arrow-of the catalyst.

–  Remove the air conduit cover by releasing the side tabs -arrows-.

–  Release the lower air conduit by releasing the tabs -arrows-. –  Detach bottom section of air duct with air hose.

–  Unplug connector -1- from air mass meter -G70-. –  Separate the air hose -2-. –  Unscrew the bolt -4- and remove the air filter housing.   Note Disregard: -Pos. 3-.

–  Unscrew the nuts -arrows- (accessible from above) joining the front exhaust tube to the turbocharger. –  Unscrew the nuts (accessible from below) joining the front exhaust tube to the turbocharger.

–  Unscrew the nuts -arrows- and pull gently under the vehicle floor cover.

–  Remove right hand side vehicle floor cover arrows.

–  Unplug the electrical connector -arrow- of the lambda probe -G39- and from the lambda probe heating -Z19-. –  Remove the connector from the bracket and push the electric conduit to the lambda probe -G39- to one side.

–  Unbolt the exhaust system bracket -arrows-.

Four wheel drive vehicles –  Remove cardan sealing flange -arrows-.

–  Remove the screws -1- and the securing elements -2- of the cardan central support, together with the heat shield. –  Hold with a wire the cardan front flange. All other vehicles continued

–  Remove the front cross member from the underbody -arrows-. –  Take exhaust pipe off with catalytic converter. Four wheel drive vehicles –  Support the cardan camshaft with the engine/gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.   Caution Risk of damage to the release elements. The flexible joints in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent further than 10°. Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts. t  Lubricate studs of the turbocharger with high-temperature lubricant; High-temperature lubricant → ETKA (Electronic spare parts catalogue. –  Align the exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter. Tightening torques
