Part II Engine block - Assembly overview
1 - Cylinder head with cylinder head cover
q   Removing and installing cylinder head → Chapter.
q   Removing and installing cylinder head covers → Chapter
q   The seal surface should not be reworked
q   with integrated camshaft bearings
q   Remove any sealant remains.
  Caution
The cylinder head cover is sealed with 2 different sealants!
q   Before installing, apply the sealants D 189 500 A1 and D 154 103 A1
q   Install the cylinder head cover perpendicular from above for the assembly so that the guide bolts are in the mountings of the cylinder head.
2 - Cylinder block
q   Removing and installing the engine block → Chapter
q   Dismantling and assembling pistons and conrods → Chapter
3 - Lower bracket for auxiliary units
q   For tensioning element and air conditioner compressor.
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Upper bracket for auxiliary units: removing and installing → Chapter
4 - 25 Nm
5 - Sump
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Clean sealing surface before installing
q   Install with silicone sealant D 176 600 A1
6 - 13 Nm
7 - 150 Nm and then turn 180° further
q   Removing and installing crankshaft pulley → Chapter.
q   Renew.
q   The contact surface of the fastening bolt must be free of oil and grease
q   Apply oil before fitting it (thread)
q   Secure the pulley with the counterhold -3415- to prevent it from turning
q   The retightening angle can be measured with a standard protractor
8 - Belt pulley
q   Observe tightening sequence → Chapter.
q   The contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
q   Secure the pulley with the counterhold -3415- to prevent it from turning
q   Removing and installing poly V-belt → Chapter.
9 - Oil seal
q   Renew.
q   removing and installing → Chapter
10 - 50 Nm
11 - Engine support
q   For subframe
12 - 20 Nm and then turn 90° further
q   Renew.
13 - Chain sprocket
q   For oil pump drive
q   The contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
q   Immobilise the sprocket using the retention tool -T10172-
14 - Oil pump chain
q   Mark D.O.R. before dismounting (installation position)
15 - Cap
16 - 5 Nm + turn 30° further
q   Bolt: M6x40
q   Tighten using the torque wrench -VAS 6583-
17 - 5 Nm + turn 30° further
q   Bolt: M6x20
q   Tighten using the torque wrench -VAS 6583-
18 - Lower valve timing housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Apply sealant 176 501 A1 when installing
19 - Stud
q   Tightening torque: 18 Nm
20 - Guide rail
q   For timing chain.
21 - Stud
q   Tightening torque: 18 Nm
22 - 50 Nm + turn 90° further
q   Renew.
23 - Sliding / tensioning shoe
q   For timing chain.
24 - 8 Nm
  Caution
Observe correct tightening sequence!
Upper distribution housing: removing and installing → Chapter
25 - Upper distribution housing
q   Install with silicone sealant D 176,501 A1
  Caution
Observe correct tightening sequence!
Upper distribution housing: removing and installing → Chapter
26 - Timing chain
q   removing and installing → Chapter
27 - Chain sprocket
q   Immobilise the sprocket using the retention tool -T10172-
28 - Chain tensioner
q   For timing chain.
q   Specified torque: 60 Nm
29 - Oil seal
q   Renew.
