  Note
The distribution housing has two parts in this engine. The removal and installation of the upper distribution housing is described in this procedure.
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Base -VAS 6340-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-10380
t  Torque wrench -VAS 6583-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  D 176,501 A1 Sealing compound
t  2 head studs M6 x 70 (e.g. screws without head)

Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove the spring-type hose and the coolant hoses -1- and -2-.
–  Press the retainer -3- beneath the coolant hoses and pull the hose upwards.
–  Move the coolant hoses to the rear.

–  Unscrew all attachment bolts from the cover of the distribution housing -1-.
–  Remove the cover of the distribution housing.

Installing
–  For better guidance of the valve timing housing, screw in two manifold studs M6 x 70 -1- in the cylinder head cover.
  Note
t  The assembly process to apply the sealant to tighten the securing screws to 8 Nm may not last more than 6 minutes.
t  The sealant starts to harden after 6 minutes.
t  Take care that the tightening torque of the securing screws is made in two stages.
–  Clean sealing surfaces carefully. They must be free of oil and grease.
–  Apply the sealant D 176 501 A1 -1- onto the sealing surface.

The line of sealant should not be thicker than 2 ... 3 mm and must go along the inner side of the tapped holes.
–  Also apply the sealant in the area of the -arrow-.

–  Position the cover of the distribution housing -1- on the manifold studs -2-.
Slide the cover of the distribution housing -1- as far as possible on the cylinder head cover.
Take care not to buckle the cover of the distribution housing.
–  Remove the manifold studs and manually screw the securing bolts.

1st stage - Tightening procedure
–  Tighten the securing bolts to 5 Nm in the following order -A - to -E-.

2nd stage - Tightening procedure
–  Tighten the securing bolts to 8 Nm in the following order -A - to -G-.

–  Move the clamp -3- from above until it contacts the bracket.
–  Connect the coolant hoses and secure the spring-type hoses -1- and -2- using the pliers -VAS 6340-.
–  Fill up coolant → Chapter.
