  Note
After removing the fuel delivery unit, check whether the fuel tank contains dirt and clean if required.
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Turning tool -T10202-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removing
  Caution
Prerequisite:
The fuel tank must not be more than 3/4 full. Therefore, it is guaranteed that the fuel gauge in the container lies beneath the fuel delivery unit flange.
  Note
t  If necessary, empty the fuel tank with the fuel extractor -VAS 5190-.
t  Observe the safety precautions before starting work → Chapter .
t  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
t  Fuel tank - Assembly overview → Chapter.
–  Remove the rear seat bench → Bodywork - interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72

–  Remove the cover -1- of the fuel delivery unit together with the fuel pump control unit -J538--2-.
  WARNING
Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Unplug the connector -4-.

–  Disconnect the fuel lines -1- and -2- from the flange.
  Note
t  Press in safety ring to release fuel lines.
t  For vehicles with additional heating, the plug connection and the fuel line of the metering pump -V54- must also be disconnected.

–  Open the sealing ring with the spanner -T10202-, and lift the flange slightly.
–  Pull fuel delivery unit and seal out of their housing in fuel tank.
  Note
t  If the fuel delivery unit needs replacing, drain the old delivery unit prior to disposal.
t  Observe relevant disposal regulations.
Installing
–  Renew seal.
–  Insert dry seal for fuel delivery unit into opening of fuel tank.
–  Moisten the seal on the inside with fuel.
–  When inserting fuel delivery unit, ensure that fuel gauge sender is not bent.

–  Tighten downwards the locking flange using force until leaving it in its fitting position.
l  Lug -2- on sealing flange must be between tabs -1- and -3- on fuel tank.
l  -Arrow- indicates flow direction.
–  Tighten the lock ring.
l  Tightening torque: 110 Nm

–  Connect the fuel supply line -1- (black).
–  Connect the return line -2- (blue or marked mark).

–  Insert the connector -arrow-.
–  Pull on the quick connectors and the plug connector to check if they have been connected correctly.
Further assembly is performed in the reverse sequence.
