  Caution
Secure the earth cable of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to the bodywork.
   
–  Detach tapered adapter -2- from shaft end -1- of fuel extractor unit -VAS 5190-.
–  Use insulating tape to mark the extraction hose -arrow- at a distance of -a- = 1,180 mm from the end of the hose.

–  Remove the filler cap from fuel filler neck.
–  Screw shaft end -1- of fuel extractor unit -VAS 5190- onto fuel filler neck.
–  Insert the suction hose far into the fuel tank until it is at the mark made previously -arrow- at the level of the rod.

At the lower end of the filling mouth, there is a ball valve -2- on the fuel tank -1-. Avoid damage to this with the suction hose -3-. Therefore, only push the hose in as far as the tape marking -arrow-.
–  Empty the fuel tank as much as possible through the filler mouth.
–  Carefully pull out extraction hose.
  Note
t  When no more fuel is extracted, the tank is emptied just enough for the sender flange to be opened without danger. The fuel tank can be removed with the remaining fuel still inside it.
t  If it is necessary to carry out work on the fuel pump or the fuel delivery unit, proceed as follows:
