Needle bearing: extracting and inserting into crankshaft > < Crankshaft

1 - 50 Nm + further 1/4 (90 °)
q   Only tighten to 50 Nm when measuring crankshaft radial clearance. Do not retighten
2 - Bearing cap
q   Do not interchange bearing caps (mark positions).
q   Bearing cap 3 with recesses for thrust washers
q   Bearing shell retaining lugs in cylinder block and bearing caps must align.
3 - Crankshaft
q   New axial play: 0.07 - 0.24 mm
q   Wear limit: 0.26 mm
Check radial clearance with Plastigage
q   new: 0.03 - 0.05 mm
q   Wear limit: 0.13 mm
q   Do not rotate crankshaft when checking radial clearance.
q   Crankshaft dimensions → Chapter.
4 - Sealing flange with sender wheel and oil seal
q   With engine speed sender -G28- (not illustrated).
q   Tightening torque for the engine speed sender -G28-: 5 Nm
q   Always replace the sealing flange together with the seal and the sender crown
q   Renewing crankshaft sealing flange - flywheel end → Chapter.
5 - 12 Nm
q   Replace
6 - Thrust washers
q   For bearing cap 3.
q   Note location
7 - Bearing cap
q   In cylinder block.
8 - Pinions
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   For oil pump drive and timing chain.
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
9 - Bearing cap
q   In bearing cap.
q   Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark).
