Removing and installing charge air cooler
   
Removing and installing charge air cooler
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-

Removal:
–  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
–  Remove front bumper cover → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.63
–  Remove air filter → Chapter.
–  Pull connectors off thermal switch and radiator fan.
–  Remove the radiator → Chapter.
   
–  Remove central guide profile -A- at front end -arrows-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- for charge air cooler mountings.

–  Unbolt condenser from charge air cooler -arrows-.
  Note
The securing bolts of the condenser are difficult to access! With the aid of a 2nd mechanic, lift the charge air cooler out of the radiator mountings. The charge air cooler can now be moved »back and forth« to allow access to the securing bolts.
–  Secure condenser to lock carrier with cable tie.
–  Take out charge air cooler from underneath.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
Hose connections and hoses for charge air system must be free from oil and grease before fitting. However (applies only to plug-in connectors); the seal and the sealing surface of plug-in connectors should be lubricated lightly with oil → Chapter.
Tightening torques for charge air cooler → Chapter.
