Coolant pump: Removing and installing t  Removing → Anchor t  Fitting → Anchor. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tray -T20173-

t  Pliers -T20174- or Pliers -T20029- Removing   WARNING Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully. –  Open cap of coolant expansion tank.

–  Detach engine cover -arrows- (according to version).

–  Remove central soundproofing -Anchorage points 1 ... 3-. –  Place the drip tray -T20173- under the engine. –  Drain coolant → Chapter

–  Take the active carbon filter out upwards with hoses connected and place to side.   Note Before removing the ribbed belt, mark its running direction with chalk or with a felt tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause it to rupture.

–  To slacken the Poly-V belt, turn the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow-. –  Take off poly V-belt.

–  Remove separation plate -2- and tensioner -1- for the ribbed belt. –  Remove the timing belt only from the cogwheel of the camshaft → Chapter .

–  Remove centre notched belt guard -arrows-.   Note t  Pulley and lower notched belt guard need not to be removed. t  The notched belt should be left in position on the crankshaft sprocket. t  Before removing the coolant pump cover notched belt with a cloth to protect against coolant.

–  Unscrew securing bolts -1- of the coolant pump and take coolant pump -2- off. –  Detach O-ring -3-. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:   Note Renew O-ring. –  Clean and smooth down sealing surface for O-ring as required. –  Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant additive »G12+«. –  Fit coolant pump -2-. l  Installation position: Housing plug points downwards.

–  Tighten coolant pump bolts -1- to 15 Nm. –  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Chapter. –  Installing Poly-V belt → Chapter. –  Fill up coolant → Chapter.
