t  Engine cooling system: checking for leaks → Anchor
t  Testing pressure relief valve in filler cap → Anchor
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Cooling system tester -SAT 1274B-
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/8-
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/9-

Check the engine cooling system for leaks
Test condition
l  Engine warm.
Checking sequence
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
–  Insert the coolant system tester -SAT 1274B- with the adapter -VAG 1274/8- into the expansion tank.
–  Use hand pump on tester to create a pressure of approx. 1.0 bar.
If pressure drops:
–  Locate the leak and rectify the fault.
Checking pressure relief valve in filler cap
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
–  Insert the coolant system tester -SAT 1274B- with the adapter -VAG 1274/9- into the cap.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump.
l  At a pressure of 1.4 ... 1.6 bar, the pressure release valve should open.
