Fuel tank and accessory parts - general component overview
  Note
For engine identification letters CCSA, CMXA, the material in the parts leading to the fuel must be adapted to improve resistance against rust and wear.
t  Position of earth connection → Fig.
   
1 - Sealing plug
q   Replace gasket if it shows signs of damage.
2 - Attachment bolt
3 - Earth connection
q   Check for secure seating.
q   To divert the electrostatic charge
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Ensure that connector is seated properly and secure lines with securing bolt for fuel filler neck → Fig.
q   After installation, use an ohmmeter to check the electrical connection between the metal ring on the fuel filler neck and a bare metal part on the body - specification: Approx. 0 Ω
4 - 10 Nm
5 - Cable duct
6 - Fuel tank
q   When removing, support it with the engine and gearbox jack -SAT 1040-
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
7 - 25 Nm
q   Only use screws with loose washers for fixing the retaining straps of the fuel tank. If another screw type is use, the straps may twist when tightening. Screws → ETKA (Electronic spare parts catalogue)
q   Renew
8 - Lock washer
9 - tension belt
q   Note fitting position:
10 - Heat shield
11 - Fuel filter:
q   Installation position: The arrow indicates the direction of flow
q   Fuel tank with attachments → Chapter
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
12 - Supply pipe
q   Leads to the fuel distributor
q   Check for secure seating.
13 - Breather line
q   Clipped onto side of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating.
14 - Seal
q   Renew
q   When fitting, fit seal (dry) in the opening in the fuel tank
q   Moisten with fuel only when installing flange
15 - Fuel delivery unit
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Fuel pump: Checking → Chapter
q   Note the installation position on fuel tank
q   With fuel level indicator sender -G-
q   Removing and installing fuel gauge sender -G-.
q   Clean strainer if dirty
16 - Seal ring 110 Nm
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Remove and install with key -T10202-
17 - Supply pipe
q   Black
q   Clipped onto side of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating.
18 - Return pipe
q   Blue
q   Clipped onto side of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating.
19 - Filler cap set
q   With dust guard
q   Removing and fitting → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55

   
Fitting position of fuel delivery unit flange
l  Lug -2- on flange must be between tabs -1- and -3- on fuel tank.
l  -Arrow- indicates flow direction.

Position of earth connection
–  Route earth connection as shown in illustrations.
–  First engage contact tab -4- of earth connection in mounting hole on fuel tank -3- and then press in spacer bush -5-.
–  Ensure connector -1- of the earth connection fits correctly to the fuel tank filler metal ring -2-.

–  Secure contact tab of earth wire to fuel filler neck with securing bolt -arrow- for the fuel filler neck.
  WARNING
After installation, use an ohmmeter to check the electrical connection between the metal ring on the fuel filler neck and a bare metal part on the body:
Specification: approx. 0 Ohm
After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
