Compression test
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-
t  Extractor -T40039-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Check compression -V.A.G 1763-

Checking process:
  Note
t  Always follow safety precautions → Chapter.
t  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃
t  The battery voltage must be at least 12.7 V.
Proceed as follows:
–  Pull off engine cover → Chapter.
   
–  Detach electrical connectors -arrows- at ignition coils.
  N28-10010
–  Remove ignition coils using puller -T40039-.
–  Unscrew the spark plugs using spark plug spanner -3122 B-.
–  Check compression pressure with compression tester -V.A.G 1763- and adapter -V.A.G 1763/6-.
  Note
Using the compression tester: → Operating instructions.
–  Turn over engine until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression values:
  A28-0074
New pressure in barWear limit in bar Permissible difference between cylinders in bar
11,0 … 14,07,03.0 (maximum)

–  Mount the spark plugs, tightening torque → Chapter.
–  Install ignition coils with output stages → Chapter.
  Note
Faults will have been stored in the memory when unplugging the connectors. After measurement, consult fault memory and then erase it if necessary.
–  Read fault memory of engine control unit → vehicle diagnosis tester.
