check operation and electricity supply l  Fuel pump relay -J17- okay. l  The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V. l  Fuses for the fuel pump in a good condition; fuse allocation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations   Note The operation of the fuel pump is checked with the actuator diagnosis.

–  Connect the Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 B- as follows: –  Connect the plug of the diagnosis line to the diagnosis connector in the footwell, drivers side. –  Switch on the ignition. –  On the display, press the pushbuttons Vehicle self-diagnosis, Engine electronics and Actuator diagnosis one after another. –  On the screen, push the right key to start the fuel pump. The fuel pump must now run-on pulsed. –  Switch ignition OFF. If the fuel pump does not run: –  Remove the rear right seat → Rep. gr.72.

–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

–  First check if the connector -arrow- has been inserted correctly; pull on the connector without pressing the locking mechanism. If the plug connector had not been connected properly, the functional inspection of the fuel pump must be repeated. –  Extract the connector -arrow- from the fuel delivery unit. –  Check the contact on the plug connector and the fuel supply unit for damage.

–  Connect the adapter for the DSO measuring/oscilloscope module (5 contacts) -VAS 5565-to the connector in the fuel supply unit. –  Connect the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- to the cables -1- and -5- of the measurement adapter / DSO (5 poles) -VAS 5565-. –  Restart the actuator diagnosis again. The LED must light up pulsed. Power supply is not okay: –  Locate and rectify open circuit using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. Power supply is okay:   WARNING Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully separating the pipe.

–  Disconnect the fuel lines -1- and -2-.   Note Press in safety ring to release fuel lines.

–  Open the sealing ring using the spanner -T10202-. –  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected. If there is cable integrity: –  Fuel pump is defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
