Fitting
  Note!
t  Replace the cylinder head bolts.
t  On assembling, replace self-locking nuts, bolts subject to goniometric tightening, as well as o-rings and gaskets.
t  Secure the joints between hoses by using the same clamps as originally fitted.
t  If repaired, carefully remove gasket remains from cylinder block and cylinder head. Avoid making scratches or grooves.
t  Carefully remove all traces of abrasive particles.
t  Only remove the new cylinder head gasket from its packing immediately before installing.
t  Handle the new gasket with extreme care. If the layer of silicone and the grooved area are damaged there is a possibility of leakage.
t  There must be no oil or coolant in the cylinder head bolt pockets in the cylinder block.
t  The sleeves for flexible tubing should be free of oil and grease before fitting.
t  Before fitting the cylinder head, locate crankshaft at TDC, cylinder 1.
–  Cover the cylinders using clean cloths to avoid the penetration of dirt and particles into the cylinder inner wall and the piston.
–  Ensure absolutely against the penetration of dust and particles into the coolant.
–  Carefully clean cylinder head and cylinder block sealing surfaces. Pay special attention that no scratching or wide scrapes do not occur (if abrasive paper is used, it must be of a grain less than 100).
–  Carefully remove metal particles, remains and cloths.

–  Put the crankshaft into TDC position -arrow-.
–  Turn crankshaft back slightly.

–  For centering, screw in the guide pins -T20049/9- in the front exterior holes for the cylinder head bolts.
The tolerance of the centering holes is constricted on the upper part. Before fitting the cylinder head ensure that the centering pins may be removed by pulling upwards. If necessary, clean the edges of the guide pins.
–  Fit the new cylinder head gasket.
–  Note the fitting position: the part key should be legible from the admission side.
–  Install cylinder head.
–  Position the 8 remaining bolts and tighten them by hand.
–  Extract the guide pins using the centering tool -T20049- in the bolt holes, screwing to the left until the pins are extracted.
–  Fit the remaining attachment bolts for the cylinder head and also tighten by hand.
  E15-0256
–  Tighten the bolts for the cylinder head, following the correct order, in the following way:
–  Tighten initially to 40 Nm.
–  Then, retighten 1/4 turn (90°).
–  Finally, retighten 1/4 turn (90°).
Continue fitting following the reverse order of the removal process.
  Note!
t  When refitting the battery, activate all of the vehicle equipment (radio/radio and navigation system, clock, electric windows) according to the Instruction Manual.
t  Other measures after reconnecting the voltage supply → Chapter.
