Ignition coil -N- and -N128- with the final power stage -N152-: verification

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526A- oder multimeter -V.A.G 1715-

t	Diode lamp -V.A.G 1527B-

t	Auxiliary measurement tool set -V.A.G 1594A- or -V.A.G 1594C-

t	Verification box (double connector) -V.A.G 1598/22- (identification letters BBX)

t	Verification box (double connector) -V.A.G 1598/31- (identification letters AZL)

t	Current flow diagrams

Note!

The ignition coil and final power stage constitute one single component.

Test conditions

l	The fuses must be OK.

l	Battery voltage at least 11.5 V

l	All consumer electrics should be connected, for example: the lights and the heated rear window

l	Engine speed sender -G28- OK: verification → Chapter

l	Hall sender -G40-, OK; verification → Chapter

Verification process

To determine which cylinder is malfunctioning or faulty, do as follows:

–	Check ignition/combustion faults recognition: → VAS 5051; Vehicle self-diagnosis.

If ignition/combustion faults are detected:

–	Continue testing the cylinder where the fault has been detected.

If no ignition/combustion faults are detected:

–	With the engine on, remove the injector connectors one by one, observing the behaviour of the engine.

or :

–	Check the spark plugs for all cylinders and observe if the electrodes have carbon build up.

If the faulty cylinder has been identified:

–	Exchange the spark plug of the faulty cylinder for that of another cylinder.

If the fault goes with the spark plug:

–	Replace the spark plug.

If the fault remains in the same cylinder:

–	Replace the ignition coil along with the final power stage -N152-.
