Install and set the oil pump with balance shaft assembly
Requirement
l  Pre-tensioned chain tensioner → Chapter
Engine BLY, BLR:
  Note
t  If the intermediate plate is removed, it is usually necessary to replace it.
t  Check that the sealant is not out-of-date.
t  The balance shaft assembly with spacer plate and sump must be installed and the securing bolts tightened immediately after the silicone sealant has been applied.
  WARNING
Wear eye protection.

–  Remove any remaining sealant on the oil sump using for example a plastic rotary brush.
–  Clean sealing surfaces: these must be free of oil and grease.
  N17-0012
–  Cut off nozzle on tube at front marking (Ø of nozzle approx. 3 mm).
  A17-0081
–  Apply a line of silicon sealant, as shown in the figure, to the clean surface of the intermediate plate.
–  In the area of the rear sealing flange, take special care applying the bead of sealer -arrows-.
Note the following:
t  Thickness of the sealing paste bead: 2 ... 3 mm
t  The line of sealant should go along the inner side of the openings in the plate -arrows-
t  The sealant should be applied to the plate on the cylinder block side, sealant is not required on the oil sump side
  Note
The sealant should not be thicker than specified, otherwise the excess sealant may enter the oil sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.
  N17-0210
–  Fit the intermediate plate on the dowel pins -arrows-.
Engines BVY, BVZ:
  N17-0211
–  Fit the intermediate plate onto dowel sleeves on balance shaft assembly as shown in the figure -arrows-.
Continuation for all vehicles:
  Note
Observe the different bolt sizes → Fig.
  N17-10075
–  Fit the oil pump with balance shaft assembly and the intermediate plate. Tighten from inside to outside to 15 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°).
  N17-10040
–  Set the engine to TDC cylinder 1. To do this, rotate the crankshaft via the centre bolt of the timing belt/crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine. The marking on the camshaft sprocket and the marking on the crankshaft must lie at TDC Cyl. 1 -arrows-„cylinder 4 in the combustion phase“.
  N15-10145
–  Align the mark on the balance shaft sprocket -arrow- with the assembly hole.
  N17-10238
–  Immobilise the sprocket in this position with the pin -T10027-. Fit the chain on the balance shaft sprocket.
–  Insert the chain sprockets in the oil pump and tighten by hand.
  Note
The chain sprocket for the oil pump may only be fitted in one position on the axle of the oil pump. Only the oil pump may be rotated for the assembly.
  N17-10060
–  Remove the pin -T10027- and the Allen key -1-. Attach the sprocket to the oil pump. Tightening torque: 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) It is possible to counterhold on the centre screw on the vibration dampers.
–  Fit the chain guard → Item
–  Fit the oil sump → Chapter.
Continue installation following reverse order for removing.
