Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Adapter cable -SAT 1348/3-3-
t  Spanner -T10202-
t  Remote control -VAG 1348/3A-
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-

Test prerequisites
l  Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
   
l  Fuse -47- in the fuseholder, below the instrument panel, left-hand side, in good condition
l  Fuel pump control unit -J538- in good condition; check → Chapter
l  Fuel filter is in good condition
l  Ignition off
Checking sequence
–  Remove rear right seat → general body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72.
–  Detach carpet under seats and fold it back.

–  Release retainers -arrows- at cover for sealing flange.

–  Release carefully electrical connection -arrow- on sealing flange and take off.

–  Connect the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with adapter cable -SAT 1348/3-3- to contact -1- with an auxiliary cable from the auxiliary measurement set -VAG 1594C-.
–  Join contact -5- to the bodywork earth using a cable from the auxiliary measurement set -VAG 1594C-.
–  Connect crocodile clip of adaptor cable -SAT 1348/3-3- to vehicle battery (+).
–  Pressremote control -VAG 1348/3A-switch
l  The working of the pump should be audible.
  Note
The fuel pump runs quietly. When testing the fuel pump ensure surrounds are quiet.

If the running of the pump is not audible:
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected and test for continuity.
If no fault is detected in the cables, then the fuel pump is faulty. Therefore the fuel delivery unit should be replaced.
–  Install fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
