Checking process
The checking of the regulation margin of the injection corrector is carried out in function 04 “basic adjustment”. In this way, the injection start valve is timed so that in measurement value block 004, the extreme values may be read of the advance and retard positions of the corrector in indication field 3.
–  Connect the -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-), and using the corresponding “direction code” 01, select the control unit for engine electronics. When doing this, the engine must be idling: (Fault reader: Turn on and select the control unit for engine electronics → Chapter).
   
Indication on the display:
–  Press the keys 0 and 4 for the function “Begin basic adjustment” and confirm with Q.

–  Press the keys 0, 0 and 4 for “Indication group number 4” and confirm with Q.
 
Begin the basic adjustment

Indication on the display:
Theoretical value in indication field 3: 6,0...9,0° at TDC
After 10 seconds, the injection corrector passes to its retard position.
 
Basic adjustment system 4             ->
900/min  Advance     7,9º v. OT      66 
Indication on the display:
Indication on the display: Theoretical value in indication field 3: 3,0...5,0° at TDC
If the theoretical value is not reached, the check the injection start valve as shown below:
–  Press .
–  Press the keys 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and confirm with Q.
–  Turn off the ignition.
–  Check the injection start valve as shown below:
 
Basic adjustment system 4             ->
900/min   Retard    3,9º v.OT       74 %
–  Disconnect the 10 contact connector for the injection start.

–  Measure the resistance between contacts 9+10 of the connector.
   Theoretical value: 12,0 ... 20,0 Ω
If the theoretical value is not reached:
–  Replace the injection start valve -N108- → Item.
If the theoretical value is achieved:
  A23-0027
–  Connect the -V.A.G 1598/22- checking box to the cable harness of the control unit.

–  Check for breakage in the cables between the checking box and the connector, following the current circuit diagram.
   Contact 9+female 79
   Contact 10+females 2 and 28
   Cable resistance: 1,5Ω max.
–  Additionally, check the cables for short circuiting between them, to ground and to battery positive.
   Theoretical value: ∞ Ω
If no fault is found in the cables:
–  Replace the engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
