Working
The doser is an electromagnetic turning regulator that is controlled through the control unit by a specific period proportion. The eccentric shaft of the diser moves the regulator slide on the high pressure plunger, thus defining the injection flow.
The stroke transmitter of the regulator slide transmits the position of the doser -N146- to the control unit, that is, which determines the injection flow.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system checker -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
t  Checking box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Current circuit diagrams
Checking conditions
–  Connect the -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-), and using the corresponding “direction code” 01, select the control unit for engine electronics. When doing this, the engine must be idling: (Fault reader: Turn on and select the control unit for engine electronics → Chapter).
   
Indication on the display:
–  Press the keys 0 and 8 for the function “Read measurement value block” and confirm with Q.

Indication on the display:
–  Press the keys 00 and 1 for “Indication group 1” and confirm with Q.
  
Read measurement value block            
Enter value group number XXX
Indication on the display:
–  Check the coolant temperature indicated in field 4. Theoretical value: 85 °C min.
Do not continue with the check until the coolant temperature has been reached.
–  Check the indication of indication field 3 (voltage of the stroke transmitter of the regulator slide).
  
Read measurement value block 1        ->
900/min   6,5 mg/H   1,72 V      87,3 °C
Indication on the display:
   Theoretical value: 1,40...2,00 V
–  Press →.
–  Press the keys 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and confirm with Q.
–  Turn off the ignition.
If the theoretical value is not achieved, check the stroke transmitter of the regulator slide and the doser as indicated below:
