Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Checking box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Current circuit diagrams
Checking conditions
l  Battery voltage, 11.5 V minimum.
l  Ground connections in the water box, correct.
l  All electrical consumers, for example: the lights and heated windscreen, must be turned off.
Checking process
–  Turn off the ignition.

–  Connect the -V.A.G 1598/22- checking box to the cable harness of the control unit.
–  Bridge the females 33+1 with the auxiliary cables of the -V.A.G 1594 C-.
–  Measure the voltage between the following females: 1+2, 1+28, 2+27, and 27+28 Theoretical value: approx. voltage of the battery
If the theoretical value is not reached:
–  Check the supply voltage relay junction 30 -J317- → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
–  Check the cabling for breaks, short circuits or resistance in contacts, following the current circuit diagrams.
If no fault is found in the cables or the relay:
–  Replace the engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
