Work sequence
Work sequence
   
–  Remove cover above camshaft housing -arrows-.
–  First remove H.T. wiring with spark plug connectors.
–  Remove spark plugs with spark plug socket and extension -T20028-.

–  Pull 4 pin connector from ignition transformer -arrow-.
–  Use a second mechanic to fully depress accelerator pedal.
–  Check compressions with compression tester -V.A.G 1381-/-V.A.G 1763-.
  Note!
See relevant test unit operating instructions for instructions on how to use test unit.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure:
New: 10...15 bar Wear limit: 7 bar pressure
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Install spark plugs with spark plug socket and extension -T20028- and tighten to 30 Nm
–  Interrogating and erasing fault memory: → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051
