Safety precautions when working on the fuel supply system > < Fuel supply system components: removal and installation

Fuel tank with accessory parts and fuel filter: removal and installation
1 - Sealing cap
q   Renew seal if damaged
2 - Tank flap unit
q   With dust cover
3 - Gravity/overflow valve
q   To remove, release locking lug and unclip valve upwards out of filler neck
q   Check valve for through-flow vertical valvel: open valve tilted 45°: Closed
4 - O-ring
q   Renew if damaged
5 - Earth connection
q   Check for secure seating
6 - Union nut, 80 Nm
q   Remove and install with -U-40055A-
7 - Return pipe
q   Blue or with blue marking
q   Clipped onto top of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating
q   press together at front to release
q   From fuel rail → Chapter
8 - Fuel delivery unit
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Fuel pump: checking → Chapter
q   Note fitting position on fuel tank → Fig.
9 - Fuel gauge sender
q   Adjusting: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
10 - Sealing ring
q   Renew if damaged
q   When installing, insert seal “dry” into fuel tank opening
q   Moisten with fuel only when installing flange
11 - Fuel filter
q   Assembly position: arrow indicates through-flow direction
12 - 3 Nm
13 - Fuel tank
q   Support with engine and gearbox jack -SAT 1001- when removing
q   removal and installation → Chapter
14 - 25 Nm
15 - Securing strap
q   Note differing lengths
16 - Vent pipe
q   Clipped onto top of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating
q   To activated charcoal filter canister → Item
17 - Supply pipe/hose
q   Black
q   Clipped onto top of fuel tank
q   press together at front to release
q   Check for secure seating
q   To fuel rail → Chapter
18 - Spacer socket
19 - 12 Nm
20 - Vent valve
q   Checking → Fig.
q   Before installing, unscrew sealing cap → Item
q   To remove pull locking latch lightly to inside -arrow- and pull valve out → Fig.-arrow-

   
Fitting position of fuel delivery unit flange
Marking on the flange must align with marking on the fuel tank.
Blue or blue marked return pipe -1- to connection with identification R.
Black supply pipe -2- to connection with identification V.
  Note!
After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.

Checking vent valve
Lever in rest position: closed
Lever pushed in direction of arrow: open
  Note!
Before installing vent valve remove fuel tank cap.
