Checking idling switch

Test sequence

–	Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-). Switch on ignition and use address word 01 to select engine control unit. (Connecting fault reader and selecting engine control unit → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.)

Indicated on display:

–	Press keys 0 and 8 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with Q key.

–	Press keys 0, 9 and 8 for “Display group number 98” and confirm entry with Q key.

–	Check the operating mode display in display zone 3. Display: Idling

–	Slowly open throttle valve. After an empty movement a stop is reached. On continuing to open the throttle valve the indicator should change to partial load Display: Partial load

Display constantly remains on one operating condition:

Read measured value block           98 →

Displayed value	Cause	Continue checking
Partial load	Open circuit or short to positive	→ Chapter
Idling	Short to earth	→ Chapter
