Self-diagnosis characteristics |
The Monomotronic injection and ignition system engine control unit -J257-is equipped with a fault memory. |
When the sensors or the components that are under surveillance present any problem, this is recorded along with information about the type of problem in the fault memory. |
The recorded problems may be consulted using the -V.A.G 1551- or -V.A.G 1552- equipment → Chapter. |
The faults affecting the operation of the lambda control may only be consulted after a test run of at least ten minutes. |
Sporadic problems are recorded in the fault memory with a specific indication that a “sporadic fault” has occurred. In the display, these faults appear with the additional initials “/SP”. Sporadic faults may be caused by a loose connection or intermittent cable integrity. If a sporadic fault does not reoccur during 10 subsequent engine starts, the fault memory will be erased. |
Once the problem has been eliminated, the fault memory must be erased → Chapter. |
Note To obtain general information about the self-diagnosis, refer to the -V.A.G 1551- and -V.A.G 1552- instruction manuals. |
