Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/18-
t  Current flow diagram

Test conditions
l  Fault “00522 Coolant temperature sender -G62-” detected by the self-diagnosis.
l  The engine should be cold.
  Note!
If there is a fault in the sender or the wiring, the control unit will work with a replacement temperature. This replacement temperature will be calculated by the control unit according to existing working conditions from the engine starting.
Checking process
If the fault was recorded in the memory as ”sporadic/SP
–  Also check the sender functioning → Chapter.
   
–  Pull 4 pin connector -1- off coolant temperature sender -G62--2-.
–  Measure resistance between sender contacts 1+3.

Specification: see diagram
–  Scale A shows resistance values for temperature range 0 -50 °C and scale B the values for temperature range 50 - 105 °C.
Examples:
t  30 °C is in range A and corresponds to a resistance of 1,500 - 2,000 Ω
t  80 °C is in range B and corresponds to a resistance of 275 - 375 Ω
If the specification is not obtained:
–  Renew the coolant temperature sender -2- → Item.
If the specification is obtained:
  N24-0640
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/18- to control unit wiring harness.
–  Check the wiring between test box and 4-pin connector for open circuit using current flow diagram.

Wire resistance: 1,5 Ω max.

–  Additionally, check wires for shorts to one another, to vehicle earth or to battery positive.
   Specification: ∞ Ω
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Replace the engine control unit → Item
