Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or Vehicle systems checker -V.A.G 1552- with Lead -V.A.G 1551/3B-
Work sequence
  Note!
All functions carried out until now with the -V.A.G 1551/1552- can also be carried out with the new -VAS 5051-.
–  Connect the -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G. 1552). Start the engine and enter “address code” 01 to select the engine control unit. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine control unit → Chapter.)
Only if the engine does not start:
–  Operate the starter motor for about 6 seconds. Then do not switch off the ignition.
–  Press Print to activate the fault reader printer. The button should light up.
   
The display reads:
–  Operate the fault reader bearing in mind the message on the display:
–  Press 0 and 2 for the function “Consult fault memory” and press Q to confirm the entry.

Select function XX                      
The display shows the number of faults stored or “No fault found”.
If no fault is stored:
–  Press .
If one or more faults are stored:
Stored faults are displayed and printed out in succession.
 
X faults found                          
Once stored faults are printed out, the display will read:
–  Press 0 and 5 for the function “Clear fault memory” and press Q to confirm the entry.

The display reads:
  Note!
The fault memory will not clear if the ignition is switched off between consulting and clearing the fault memory.
–  Press .

The display reads:
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.

Select function XX                      
The display reads:
–  Switch off the ignition.
–  Eliminate faults on the print out, using the fault table: Codes P0 SAE → Chapter, Codes P1 SAE → Chapter.
–  Consult the conformity code → Chapter. If the fault memory has been cleared or the permanent positive voltage supply to the engine control unit disconnected, generate the conformity code again → Chapter.
