t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594A- or -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/18A-

The regulation margin of the injection corrector can be checked with the help of the final controls and the simultaneous call-up of the 04 measured value block. To do this, the ”injection start valve -N108-“ positioner must be activated, and then the final control diagnosis must be quit by pressing the C key”.
Using this procedure, the injection start valve remains pulsed in such a way that with the help of the 04 measured value block (display field 3), the regulation margin of the injection corrector can be read.
Test sequence
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the “address code” 01. When doing so the engine must be idling. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine electronics control unit → Chapter.)
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0 and 3 for the function “Final control diagnosis”.

  Note!
The different positioners are only activated for 30 seconds. During this time lapse several entries in the fault reader must be carried out and the measured values must be read. Therefore, it is suitable to first read the description of the necessary operations, in order to familiarise yourself with the procedure.
–  Confirm entry with the Q-key.

Indicated on display:
–  Press C-key.
–  Press keys 0 and 8 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with Q-key.

Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0, 0 and 4 for “Value group number 4” and confirm entry with Q-key.

The valuse displayed in fields 3 and 4 should oscilate within the following margins:
l  Specification display zone 3
lower margin 1° n. OT (a. TDC)...5.0° v. OT (b. TDC)
upper margin 14.0...17.4° v. OT (b. TDC)
l  Specification display zone 4
lower margin 2...5%
upper margin 90...95%
Due to the inertia of the fault reader viewer, the measured values shown vary greatly. Thefore, it is only necessary to take into account that in display field 3 the lowest numeric value remains between 1.0 and 5.0, and and the highest between 14.0 and 17.4
In display field 4, the lowest numeric value remains between 2 and 5, and the highest between 90 and 95
If the specifications are not attained:
–  Check the injection start valve -N108- → Anchor.
Injection start valve -N108- checking
–  Disconnect the connector on the injection pump side → Item.
 
Read measured value block 4           ->
840/min    0.9° v. OT   0.9° v. OT   3 %
–  Test resistance between contacts 2 + 3 of the connector. Specification: 12... 20 Ω
If the specification is not obtained:
–  Replace the injection start valve -N108- → Item.
If the specification is obtained:
  V23-0296
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/18- to control unit wiring harness.
  V29-0062
–  Check wiring between test box and 3-pin connector for open circuit using current flow diagram. Contact 2 + socket 51. Contact 3 + socket 68. Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω max.
–  Additionally, check wires for shorts to one another, to vehicle earth or to battery positive.Specification: ∞Ω
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Replace diesel direct injection control unit -J248- → Chapter.
