Features of self-diagnosis
The direct injection and diesel pre-heating system control unit is equipped with a fault memory.
If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
Faults which only occur sporadically are printed with the addendum “sporadic fault”. These faults will be indicated on the display by the addendum “/SP”. The cause of sporadic faults can be due to a loose contact or an intermittent break in a cable. If the sporadic fault does not occur again within 50 engine starts, it will be erased from the fault memory.
If faults are detected which influence the engine running, the preheating warning lamp will flash.
Memorised faults can be read on -V.A.G 1551- or -V.A.G 1552- → Chapter.
The fault memory must be erased after the faults has been eliminated → Chapter.
  Note!
For general information about self-diagnosis, see the instruction manuals for testers -V.A.G 1551- and -V.A.G 1552-.
