Interrogate fault memory
Interrogate fault memory
–  Select the diagnostic function “02 - Interrogate fault memory”.
The display shows the number of stored faults.
  Note!
t  The list below contains all possible faults that can be detected by the radio self-diagnostic function and displayed on the test unit. The faults are sorted according to their 5-digit fault identification number.
t  Before renewing components, check the wiring and connections to these components as well as the earth connections, referring to the current flow diagram.
t  After performing the repair, always interrogate the fault memory again with the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- and erase the fault memory.

Vehicle system voltage terminal 30
Signal too low → Note
Battery voltage less than 9.5 volts
Battery not charged sufficiently
Battery defective
Alternator defective
Radio unit does not function or function is poor
–  Read measured value block, → Chapter
–  Check battery, charge if necessary ⇒ Electrical system, Repair group 27
–  Check alternator ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations

1)  This fault may also be stored if the starter is operated for longer than 10 s!

S contact on ignition/starter switch -D-
Open circuit
Ignition/starter switch not OK
Wiring not OK
Radio/navigation system not OK
Radio does not automatically switch on when ignition is switched on, even though radio was switched on when ignition was last switched off.
The radio when switched on when ignition is switched on switches off automatically after 1 hour.
–  Read measured value block, → Chapter
–  Check wire connections using current flow diagram
–  Check ignition/starter switch, renew if necessary

Output radio display dash panel insert
No communication → Note
Wiring defective
Radio/navigation system defective
Dash panel insert defective
No indication on dash panel insert display
No data transmission between radio/navigation system and dash panel insert
–  Read measured value block, → Chapter
–  Check wire connections using current flow diagram
–  Perform self-diagnosis of dash panel insert, renew dash panel insert if necessary
–  Renew radio/navigation system

2)  During the self-diagnosis it is not possible to recognise if a fault exists after fault rectification. Therefore after each fault rectification and erasure of the fault memory it is necessary to perform a functional check of the second display and then interrogate the fault memory again.
