Sequence for the removal and assembly of steering column combined control unit components
When removing the combined switch complete with the base support, this is dismounted as is the body of the steering lock. For assembly of the steering lock housing, new shear bolts are required.
The sequence of operations described below should always be followed, even when removing or replacing only one component of the combined switch in the steering column.
  Caution
The instructions in the repair manual for disconnecting and connecting the battery must be followed .
–  Disconnect the battery.
–  Remove driver's side airbag module → Bodywork, Interior fitting work; Rep. gr.69
–  Remove steering wheel → Chassis, axles, steering; Rep. gr.48.
–  Remove the steering column trim → Bodywork, interior installation work; Rep. gr.68.
The components of the steering column switch are to be removed in the following sequence:
t  Steering column electronics control unit -J527- → Chapter
t  Airbag spiral spring/retractor ring with collector ring -F138- → Chapter
t  Steering angle sensor -G85- → Chapter
t  Indicator switch -E2- → Chapter
t  Windscreen wiper switch -E- → Chapter
t  Steering column switch base → Chapter
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
