Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrenches -SAT 8010-
Removing:
  Caution
The instructions in the repair manual for disconnecting and connecting the battery must be followed → Chapter.
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.

–  Remove engine cover by pulling it upwards in its securing points -arrows-.

–  Open the cable clips -1- and remove cable.
–  Unlock and loosen connectors -2-.
–  Remove the sound insulation → Body, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50

–  Remove the protector hood -arrow-.
–  Unscrew the bolt at the back and remove the battery's positive cable from the alternator.
–  Unscrew the bolt -1- and remove the alternator's support-2-.

–  Use a spanner in the housing -2- and move the tension roller -1- in the direction of the arrow.

–  Lock the tension device -1- with a 4mm Allen key -2- or with spanner -3449-.
  Caution
Before removing the poly V belt, mark the direction of rotation on the top surface. Note the direction of rotation and the assembly position when fitting the belt. If the belt is fitted against the direction of rotation or in the inverse position, the belt will deteriorate.
–  Remove the ribbed belt.
–  Release the tension device again.

–  Remove the tension device by unscrewing the e/c 16 bolt -arrow- and remove it from the vehicle.

–  Unscrew the two bolts which secure the alternator.
  Note
When removing the alternator, be careful not to lose the spacer sleeve of the lower bolt.

–  Unscrew the cable clip -arrow- on the back of the alternator.
–  Remove the alternator from the vehicle.
Fitting:
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
  Caution
t  When fitting used poly V belts, check the direction of rotation marked on the belt before removing them.
t  Ensure, before installing poly-V belt, that all the units (alternator, air conditioning compressor) are secured correctly.
t  When fitting the belt, check that the pulleys are correctly positioned.

–  Push out the threaded bushes -A- about 4 mm -in the direction of the arrow- on the body of the alternator.
–  Fit the spacer sleeve of the lower bolt of the alternator.
–  Tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the torques shown → Chapter .
  Caution
The instructions in the repair manual for disconnecting and connecting the battery must be followed → Chapter.
–  Connect battery → Chapter.
–  Start the engine and check the belt.
