Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrenches -SAT 8010-
  L00-10226
t  Wrench -U 40084-
Removing:
–  Detach alternator.
Vehicles with 1.2 l fuel injection engine, 47 kW → Chapter
Vehicles with 1.4 l fuel injection engine, 55 and 74 kW → Chapter
Vehicles with 1.6l fuel injection engine, 77 kW → Chapter
Vehicles with 1.4 litre TDI engine, 51, 55 and 58 kW → Chapter
Vehicles with 1.9 litre SDI engine, 47 kW → Chapter
Vehicles with 1.9 litre TDI engine, 74, 96 and 118 kW → Chapter
–  Place the alternator in a vice at the appropriate points.
  W00-2240
–  Remove the poly-V pulley with the aid of the spanner -U 40084-.
Fitting:
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
  Caution
t  When fitting used poly V belts, check the direction of rotation marked on the belt before removing them.
t  Ensure, before installing poly-V belt, that all the units (alternator, air conditioning compressor) are secured correctly.
t  When fitting the belt, check that the pulleys are correctly positioned.
–  Tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the torques shown → Chapter .
