Alternator, 1.4l TDI engine, 55 and 59 kW > < Tightening order: Bracket for ancillaries, vehicles with air conditioning system

Torque wrenches -SAT 8010-
  L00-10226
Cutting pliers -T20174-
Removing:
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.

–  Separate the hose clips and spring-type clip -arrows- of the charged air hose -1- on both supports and remove from the vehicle.

–  Loosen the spring-type clip -3- and remove the hose -2-.
–  Open the cable retainer -1- , remove the hose -2- and move the cable to one side.

–  Disconnect the DF cable connector-1- and remove the protection -3-.
–  Undo the securing nut behind this and remove the cable B+ -2- from the alternator.
  Caution
Before removing the poly V belt, mark the direction of rotation on the top surface. Note the direction of rotation and the assembly position when fitting the belt. If the belt is fitted against the direction of rotation or in the inverse position, the belt will deteriorate.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Engine assembly; Rep. Gr.13
–  Remove the pin -T10060 A- and tension the clamping element.

–  Unscrew the three securing screws -arrows- and remove the clamping element upwards out of vehicle.

–  Unscrew both securing screws of the alternator -arrows-.
–  Pull the alternator forwards. In doing so, consider the length of the cables connected, release the alternator from the bracket for the ancillaries and pull a little towards the headlight for providing access to the rear side of the alternator.

–  Unscrew the securing nuts -2- and remove the cable bracket -1- from the connecting thread.
–  Remove the alternator upwards from the vehicle.
Fitting:
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
  Caution
t  When fitting used poly V belts, check the direction of rotation marked on the belt before removing them.
t  Ensure, before installing Poly-V belt, that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioning compressor) are secured correctly.
t  When fitting the belt, check that the pulleys are correctly positioned.

–  Push out the threaded bushes -A- about 4 mm (in the direction of the arrow) from the body of the alternator.

–  Screw on the cable retainer -arrow- to the rear of the alternator into the 4 O'clock position..Tensioning lever -VAS 3297-

When installing the clamping elements, make sure that the cable retainer -1- is located outside the clamping element and not in the clamping element and that the bracket for ancillaries is sufficient.
–  Tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the torques shown → Chapter .
–  Connect battery → Chapter.
–  Start the engine and check the belt.
