Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair
Front Axle Shaft
Removal and Installation

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front wheels.
3. Remove and discard axle nut.
4. Remove stabilizer and transverse link from crossmember.
5. Using a drift and hammer, remove and discard DOJ spring pin, Fig. 3.
6. Remove DOJ from transmission spindle.
7. Remove driveshaft assembly. If necessary, use puller tool No. 926470000.
8. Inspect all parts for wear, damage or corrosion and replace as necessary.
9. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. When replacing axle shaft, install new inner oil seal.
b. Seat under cut free joint into hub using axle shaft installer tool No. 922431000 and extension tool No. 927130000.
c. Install axle shaft to hub with new axle nut. Refer to Fig. 3 for torque values.
