Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Testing and Inspection

Canister And Purge Control Valve

NOTE: To avoid breathing fuel vapors, do not suck on any evaporative emission control hoses.

1.

Disconnect and orally blow air through vacuum hose; there should be no leaks.

2.

Disconnect and orally blow air through purge hose; there should be no leaks.

3.

Disconnect tank vapor hose from fuel tank side.  Orally blow air through hose and check for unobstructed flow.

4.

Visually check canister exterior for cracks or other damage; replace if problems are detected.
