With the same tools used in step #2, measure dimension "1". (See Figure 3).

To determine thrust bearing thickness, Dimension "T", use the formula below to select the thrust bearing closest to specification.
"T" = ("L" + 0.4 mm) - (0.25 mm to 0.50 mm) - "1".

An explanation of the formula can be found below:
"L" - The distance from the top of the Low and Reverse brake gauge placed on the transmission case, to the forward clutch. (See Figure 2).
0.4 mm - The transmission pump gasket thickness.
0.25 mm to 0.50 mm - The required oil clearance for the thrust bearing which can vary anywhere from 0.25 mm to 0.50 mm in order to obtain the proper
total end-play.
